American Olympic gymnast Laurie Hernandez has been unveiled as the latest UNICEF ambassador, following in the footsteps of Sofia Carson, Selena Gomez and Lucy Liu.

Hernandez travelled to Panama to see how UNICEF helps children and families who have made the trek through the Darién Gap, and commented 'The number of children who travel through the Darién Gap is astounding. Witnessing families with babies and small children arrive by boat after this frightening journey is a powerful reminder of the importance of UNICEF's work on the ground, providing clean water and sanitation, safe spaces and psychosocial support'.
