Stormzy, Sir Sir Lewis Hamilton, and Alice Dearing are among the personalities joining forces with BBC Radio 1Xtra for the 1Xtra Future Figures initiative in support of Black History Month, which hopes to 'celebrate and champion those who have made an impact within the Black community that will leave a legacy in years to come'.
Throughout October, the radio station will 'shine a spotlight on each Future Figure's success and give them a platform to showcase their extraordinary work', and alongside the initiative, Miss Lafamilia and Shaybo will both host their own shows on the station and focus on the impact of the Black music scene throughout the UK and the rest of the world. Faron McKenzie, Head of BBC Radio 1Xtra, commented '1Xtra has a very special connection with its communities, artists and culture so it’s important we continue to recognise and celebrate those who are doing extraordinary work for the Black community. I’m excited to launch 1Xtra’s Future Figures - our yearly initiative that platforms and showcases the many inspirational individuals, groups and organisations and the great work they are doing'.
