Celebrities including Gemma Chan, Dua Lipa, Adwoa Aboah, Dame Dame Judi Dench, Naomie Harris, Olivia Colman, Thandie Newton, Gillian Anderson, Noma Dumezweni, Emilia Fox, Jodie Whittaker, Emeli Sandé, Leomie Anderson, Wunmi Mosaku, Jorja Smith, Sir Sir Patrick Stewart, Meera Syal, Romesh Ranganathan, Jordan Stephens, and Lesley Manville, have added their names to the Step Up Migrant Women petition with Amnesty International, urging Home Secretary Priti Patel and the government to change the law and ensure equal protection for all domestic abuse survivors, 'no matter what their immigration status is or where they are from'.

Crazy Rich Asians star Chan commented 'Too many women are left trapped in abusive relationships and unsafe situations because they can’t access the support they need. It shouldn’t matter if you’re born in this country or not - all victims deserve the right to seek police help and to have access to refuges'.
