Marieke Lucas Rijneveld, a Dutch dairy farmer, has penned one of the most talked about novels of 2020.
The Discomfort of Evening, which has been translated into nine languages and was the subject of a three way bidding war in the UK, draws on the novelist's rural upbringing to tell the story of a devout farming family. The 28 year old non-binary author has been longlisted for the International Booker Prize for their debut novel, and prior to this had two volumes of poetry published in their native Netherlands.
