Conor Rogers, a 27 year old artist from Sheffield, credits his home town for his success as an artist, saying the city ‘opened my eyes to art as a career’.
Following his graduation from the Sheffield Institute of Art in 2014, his work has been shown around the world and featured in the 2015 edition of Bloomberg New Contemporaries’ showcase of up and coming artists. Taking inspiration from the domestic and social landscapes of the north of England, Rogers primarily uses acrylic paints on found objects – including unused betting slips, discarded drug baggies and crisp packets – to paint scenes depicting the reality of life in the UK. More recently, Rogers won the inaugural £10k UK Young Artist of the Year Award, co-hosted by the Saatchi Gallery, UK Young Artists and the Robert Walters Group, and is currently creating new works for numerous other competitions and projects.
