Mimi Choi, a Vancouver-based make-up artist, has been creating her optical illusion and 3-D looks for five years, after quitting her job as a pre-school teacher.

Taking inspiration from her dreams and the work of surrealist artists, Choi’s intricate looks have earned her over a million Instagram followers, with her work gaining worldwide recognition after she created Ezra Miller’s seven-eyed makeup for the 2019 Met Gala. The hyperreal looks she creates have been described as ‘mind-bending’, ‘insane’ and even ‘unsettling’, and have earned her partnerships with MAC, Samsung and Make Up Forever among others.
