Soraya Jansen, a Malaysian-German model, artist and activist, credits her mixed-race heritage and growing up in Malaysia with influencing her performance artwork.
Addressing issues including beauty standards and the lack of diversity in the UK education system, Jansen refused to take part in her graduate show at Glasgow School of Art, instead posting her own performance piece online in protest. Despite being known for her thought-provoking art and outspokenness, Jansen has started to gain recognition in the fashion world, notably opening Vivienne Westwood’s menswear show during London Fashion Week Men’s in 2017 and subsequently walking for Giles Deacon, Whistles and Astrid Andersen.
