British former footballer and boxer Leon McKenzie has lent his support to Samaritans' latest campaign, Real People, Real Stories, aiming to tackle the stigma around men seeking help when they are 'struggling to cope', after research has revealed suicide is the biggest killer of males under 50.
McKenzie, who retired from boxing to focus on raising awareness of mental health in 2017, commented 'I know how tough it gets when you’re in that dark place. I’ve been there, not wanting to exist anymore. By sharing my story and supporting the campaign, I hope other men understand that you can climb back up with some help'.
