Viveik Kalra, a relative newcomer to acting, gave one of the most talked about performances of this year's Sundance Film Festival with an electrifying turn in Gurinder Chadha's Blinded by the Light.

With just one credit under his belt beforehand (an appearance on ITV series Next of Kin), Kalra's breakout role earned him comparisons to Matthew Broderick's star defining turn in Ferris Bueller's Day Off. The film, which received a standing ovation and one of Sundance's biggest US distribution deals, sees the Windsor born 20 year old playing a nerdy British Pakistani teen who discovers a love of Bruce Springsteen's music in Thatcher era Britain, and Chadha has described the coming of age tale as a 'spiritual sequel' to her hit comedy Bend It Like Beckham.
