Brooklyn-based hip-hop and soul duo, is the brainchild of Thandiwe and Niambi Sala, who met as seniors in high school after both being accepted to the same NYU scholarship program for young leaders focused on community service and social change.
Named after a Yoruba river deity, the goddess of love, beauty, and fertility, Oshun then began to use digital and acoustic sounds, heavy drums and bass, and ambient harmonic textures, while channelling the ‘spirit of their ancestors’, to express their femininity and create a ‘sonic manifestation of Afrofuturism’. Since then, the duo have released their debut studio album Bittersweet, Vol 1, which features BRITs Critics’ Choice winner Jorja Smith, and have been championed by Billboard, Rolling Stone, The FADER, Viceland, Huffington Post, NPR, Essence, and Vogue.
