Segun Akinola, a Royal Birmingham Conservatoire alumnus, is to become Doctor Who’s new composer, tasked with reworking the BBC One show's iconic theme as Jodie Whittaker plays the first female incarnation of the Time Lord.

Included in BAFTA’s 2017 Breakthrough Brit programme, Akinola holds a list of impressive screen credits including BBC Two’s Black and British: A Forgotten History, which caught the attention of showrunner Chris Chibnall, who said 'From our very first conversations, it was obvious Segun was a passionate, collaborative and delightful human being as well as a fantastic and bold composer. We’re looking forward to introducing the world to his exciting and emotional soundtracks for the Thirteenth Doctor'.
