Matières Fécales, which translates to Fecal Matter, are a Paris based collective formed by fashion designers and artists Hannah Rose Dalton and Steve Bhaskaran.

The couple started the project during their last year of fashion school to protest against negative aspects of the fashion industry, consumer culture and censorship, as well as encouraging self-expression and individuality. Objecting to conventional beauty standards and describing themselves as ‘just an alien couple out and about’, their daily look – shaven heads, eyebrows and extra-terrestrial make up - has been described as ‘freakish’, ‘eerily beautiful’, and ‘walking art’ by their admirers. Showcasing their extraordinary designs on their Instagram account, which boasts over 200,000 followers and was recently featured in Vogue, Fecal Matter’s clothing collections aim to shake up societal norms and critical thinking – in their own words, ‘to pay attention to us requires an open mind’.
