Amara La Negra, 27, first gained attention last month when she appeared in reality show Love & Hip Hop: Miami, which saw her pursue her dream to break into the US market after releasing some material in the Dominican Republic.

Born in Miami to Dominican parents, her experience and determination to call out colourism in the Latin music industry ensured she fast became one of the show’s most popular personalities, with many expecting her to follow in the footsteps of Bodak Yellow hitmaker Cardi B (whose breakout came in Love & Hip Hop: New York). Just days after the show first aired in January, La Negra signed a multi-album record deal with Fast Life Entertainment Worldwide and BMG, and launched the single What A Bam Bam last week, earning rave reviews and causing critics and fans alike to eagerly anticipate her next single, Insecure, and her up-coming debut EP.
