Brendan Scannell, the stand-up comic featured on Funny or Die and Super Deluxe Comedy Central Digital, has landed a leading role in the TV remake of Heathers, airing later this year.

The iconic 1988 black comedy, which catapulted the careers of Winona Ryder and Christian Slater, is being reimagined for television with Scannell taking on the role of gender-queer Heath, aka Heather Duke. Last year Scannell made his film debut in Robert Mearns’s Kill Game, and starred in an episode of the comedy series My Boyfriend Is a Robot.
