Taking inspiration for his dishes from his home state of Michigan, chef James Rigato opened The Root Restaurant & Bar in 2011 as a way of showcasing local produce.

Last year he launched his second eatery, Mabel Gray, in Detroit to huge acclaim from local foodies and critics across the US, and his profile was boosted even further after he appeared in American TV competition Top Chef. Now Rigato has announced a collaboration with hotel chain Hawthorn Suites by Wyndham, which will see him develop in-room cooking programmes to encourage guests to feel more at home. If it was hard getting a reservation at one of his restaurants before, it might be nearly impossible now.
