British author Anna Metcalfe is off to an auspicious start as she releases her debut collection of short stories Blind Water Pass, published by John Murray Press in April 2016.

The 27 year old, born in Germany before growing up in Fife, and later Lincolnshire, was already a finalist for the Sunday Times EFG Short Story Award in 2014 for her short story Number Three. After spending a year in China working for the British Council, Metcalfe was inspired to delve into ‘cultural exchange and the different degrees of success with which people are able to translate themselves for others and for different kinds of cultural environments’. The budding novelist revisits the question of communication and miscommunication between characters of different cultures with her new melting pot of stories and the young writer is definitely a new voice to watch out for.
