Benedict Cumberbatch supports human rights campaign

27 05 2015

Sherlock actor Benedict Cumberbatch has supported a campaign by human rights group Liberty, joining fellow actors Vanessa Redgrave, Simon Callow, David Harewood and Indira Varma to create videos calling on the government to scrap plans to repeal the Human Rights Act, using the Twitter hashtag #SaveOurHRA.

Cumberbatch said 'Repealing it will mean less protection against state abuse or neglect, and weaken the rights of every single one of us - and the vulnerable most of all', while Callow called the act 'one of the few laws that enables us to hold the powerful to account'.
