Downton Abbey actress Michelle Dockery has been announced as Oxfam's first ever Humanitarian Ambassador and is to work with the charity to raise funds and highlight its work responding to emergencies worldwide.

Dockery, who travelled to Jordan to meet with Syrian refugees affected by conflict last year, said 'It is clear that the world is currently experiencing a huge number of humanitarian emergencies and there are millions of people who are suffering as a result, with nowhere to turn and in desperate need of support... I hope that in accepting this role, I will be able to help Oxfam raise awareness of their work, what they need to help those in crises and to show those who do donate what an amazing difference their support can make'.
