BBC appoints new Director of Communications

John Shields has been appointed as the BBC's new Director of Communications by Director-General Tony Hall, and is to devise the corporation's communications strategy and lead the Public Affairs and Communications Group.

Hall describes him as a 'first class Director of Comms' and says that the BBC's chief aim is 'to re-establish trust with our audiences and move towards a new chapter in the BBC's history'.
