The Royal Mail has announced a national competition giving school children aged 4-11 the chance to design its Christmas stamps, with one of two winning pieces appearing on a first class stamp, and the other on a second class stamp.

Launched by children's author and illustrator Lauren Child, the competition, themed 'What does the Christmas season mean to you?', is open until July 19 and winners are announced in the autumn.
