Author Victoria Hislop, whose best-selling novel The Island is set on the Greek island of Spinalonga and highlighted issues of leprosy, has been announced as a new ambassador for the charity Lepra, and is to support communication and get involved with events in the UK.
Hislop commented 'It's remarkable that one person is still diagnosed with leprosy around the world every two minutes'.
