JM Coetzee appeals against bullfighting for PETA

Novelist JM Coetzee has appealed to members of Spain's Culture Committee, asking them to reject an initiative to give bullfighting legal protection as a 'cultural pastime'.

In his letter, written on behalf of PETA, Coetzee described bullfighting as 'a violent, bloody spectacle – a throwback to a time when people took no heed of the feelings of animals'.
