Young British author Samantha Shannon caused a bidding war with her debut novel in 2012, with Bloomsbury securing the book for a six figure sum.

The Bone Season, due out on August 20, is the first in a series of seven, is set in 2059 and follows a clairvoyant criminal. The 21 year old was discovered by author Ali Smith, who was teaching a creative writing class at Oxford where Shannon studies English Language and Literature.
