Slumdog Millionaire star Freida Pinto has been announced as Plan International's latest 'Because I am a Girl' ambassador, the charity's global initiative that launches sustainable projects in developing countries, giving girls access to clean water, food, healthcare, education and protection from violence.

Pinto, who travelled to Sierra Leone last month with the organisation, said 'If we educate and empower girls, they will reach their fullest potential, pulling themselves and their families out of poverty'.
