The BBC Symphony Orchestra has announced Finnish conductor Sakari Oramo as its new Chief Conductor Designate.
His first performance in the new role will be at the 2013 BBC Proms, followed by four concerts in the 2013/14 Barbican season. Oramo said 'I am delighted to be returning to the musical scene of the UK and I am planning to explore a wide range of repertory with the Orchestra'.
